Canon EOS 1100D

1 min read
I'm still thinking if I should sell the EOS 1100D I won in a photo contest. My dad said I shouldn't, but I'm afraid it'll depreciate with time as new models are released in the market. I have my trusty 500D (gift from my dad for doing well in A Levels) which I'll probably keep for a long time. After all, I don't have much use for another DSLR and it's just sitting in my cabinet (not even a dry-cabi at that!) looking pretty... neglected. Hmmm...

I never liked to torment my followers with my inane journal entries but I felt that this particular one was imperative.

I think 2010 was an extremely dark year for me. The nightmares ranged from persuading my boss not to sue me and battle it out in court, to confiding in a counselor about my vivid suicidal thoughts which totally didn't work out, but that's not the point. Upon a period of deep reflection, everyone has their own problems. Regardless of how big or small they are, life has to go on. You still have to stand in that jam-packed bus with strangers towering over you while you inhale their unforgivable stench, or sit beside that pimply obese girl who would pester you to no end in class, or skim through your tumblr dashboard as though you don't give a bloody damn about homework and the world. You know. Life just trickles on like that.

But let's put that aside for a while. Looking back, I have come a long way in honing my photography skills. I guess this year was one thoroughly imbued with photography because (a), I got my first ever personal DSLR (= no more loaning of bodies!) in accordance with my 'A' Level results; (b), I felt that my skills improved exponentially and (c), I delved into 2 new genres of photography - photojournalism and fashion photography.

The 'it' in my title is open to interpretation, but I use it lazily to encapsulate everything that has been going on in my life. I might liken 'it' to 2010.

Argh, another incoherent post. Told you my entries are inane.

Till then!

College Life

1 min read
... is not going too smoothly.

Those were the times when I was still in junior college, lamenting high and low. The bulging files, the endless timed-trials, the thoughts of breaking free from the rigid education system. (This statement is pretty ironic since I am already bonded to the Ministry of Education, but that's not the point.) I was trapped in a vicious cycle of study and sleep. I wanted, so bad, to start the supposedly refreshing college life everyone talked about.

So now I'm here to tell you this: it's all a bloody scam. College has NEVER been easy. Screw those who claimed that it's better than being in a JC. No, no, no, you're ficking wrong.

My dreams get longer, day by day. Sometimes they are testing the edges of the limbo in parallel worlds. I fall, and never wake up.

It is the best way to die.

Goodness... It just dawned on me that I've not posted anything in my journal for 11 months! Looking back at 2009, here's a quick summary for each month:

*****

January: Rushing thru my G-quad research at NTU for SSEF, a national research competition. OMG I remember taking the MRT from Pasir Ris to Boon Lay, and doing my Alkenes/Arenes mindmap along the way! HEY IT RHYMES. It was just so totally grueling, challenging and stressful. Eventually I didn't win any prize or whatsoever but I'm thankful to my school and mentors for giving me this blessed opportunity. :)

February: It was quite a random month- there was the traditional 'Angel and Mortal' game in JCs, a fieldtrip to the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research in NUS AND WORLD MATH DAY! :) :D  Which I got first for, plus a pretty box of chocolates from my civics tutor. Although they have expired since September, I still keep them!

March: What else but March Block Tests (MBTs)? The month saw me studying (and skipping) chapter after chapter. My grades weren't that awesome but they weren't shitty, either. Oh and the photog club has a new, larger clubroom with a pullout studio backdrop just say wow plz.

April: Probably one of the more packed months this year! Research symposium, release of PW results (which I've gotten an 'A' for), J1 photog rally, Honny's birthday, AAPT contest, my London trip which was unfortunately canceled due to the impending H1N1 outbreak... *catches breath*

May: Had my last Bio practical for the year, which includes transforming bacteria and viewing them under UV light. Photog shoots with J2s and TICs. Fashion photographer for ManjaGirl. Colosseum! Playing cards with my Gambling Gang and haha the race between Mr Max and Mr LP was epic.

June: Another mugger month before the Mid Year Exams (MYE). Anyway, Photog won the Yip Hoi Kee School Challenge shield for 2 consecutive years! Words just couldn't describe how proud I was for photog at that time. Oh and... MJ's death.

July: Top 100 in AAPT. Plus NAPFA WTH. 'Nuff said.

August: A 'first-time' month. National Day this year was special to me. I actually teared while reciting the pledge at 8:22 PM. Like that was the first time I truly felt so emotional and patriotic. I promised myself I would never forget my roots as a Singaporean, wherever I may go. Also, I climbed the school gate for the first time on the 20th of August. Love the adrenaline rush yo!

September: Oh my Prelims. I spent dunno how many freaking nights in MJ studying with my study partners, namely Hui Teng and Soon Siang. I climbed the school gate again wahaha lovely. Other than that it was merely plain studying, studying, AND studying!!! My prelim results weren't too bad after all!

October: Sad memories...

November: 'A' Levels, which also marks the end of my JC journey! Well, almost! By that time I was super drained from mugging excessively and I was desensitised to a lot of things revolving around my life. OK, but now I'm chipper and relaxed... More like slack! Haha.

December: 'A' Levels are finally over! Frankly speaking, I've been slacking every single day since I'm only resuming my Uni studies in August! Well, I've also been studying for my driving tests and giving tuition to my brother and cousin. A very unfruitful month compared to the earlier months, I should say!

*****

So that concludes 2009 for me. How's yours?
I'd love to hear it!
